Iran's ex-President Ahmadinejad to run in presidential election, state TV says
·1 min
Iran’s former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has registered to run for president in the country’s upcoming election. The election was organized following the death of a candidate in a helicopter crash last month. Ahmadinejad could potentially be barred from the race, as candidates need to be vetted by the country’s Guardian Council. Ahmadinejad was previously elected as Iran’s president in 2005 and served until 2013. He was not allowed to run in the 2017 election by the Guardian Council after facing criticism from Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
